A Holiday on Seven Mile Beach
Monday, July 20th, 2009After weeks of traveling around the world to settle a deal for our company with another multinational corporation, I was ready to take a break. Jet lag and untimely meals on international flights took their toll and I was looking forward to a relaxing week in the Cayman Islands. I looked for a resort with a spa and found three in Grand Cayman. The Westin Casuarina has the Hibiscus Spa and I found out that they had ocean-view rooms at Greater Antilles available for the dates that I wanted. Seven Mile Beach, where the resort is located, is a picturesque beach and I looked forward to my vacation..
Once I reached Grand Cayman, I checked into the Westin and confirmed my reservations for the spa treatments. After a short nap, I went over to the spa for a a four handed massage to soothe my worn muscles. Hours of sitting in airport lounges waiting for flights over several weeks had made my back stiff. After a warm shower and a cocktail at the bar, I was ready for a long relaxing walk on Seven Mile Beach. Several guests from the hotel were sunning themselves on the beach, some were seated at the Beach Bar. I though I recognized a couple of faces and waved. One of the men at the Beach Bar walked over to shake hands and I recognized Pete, my bridge partner from our university days. Pete joined me to walk along Seven Mile Beach, talking nineteen to the dozen about bridge, common friends, the Cayman Islands etc. Apparently there was a bridge tournament being held at the hotel and he wanted to know if I still played. I did not want to get stuck in a smoke filled room, I had had enough of that. So I said I didn’t play anymore and felt guilty when he looked disappointed. Going all the way to Cayman Islands to a resort on Seven Mile Beach and staying indoors made no sense to me. What do you think?
