Virgin Media Increases Download Speeds, Transparency will be the Motto
Internet service provider Virgin Media has increased its broadband download speed up to 20 Mb, and has assured customers to give transparent and realistic information about their potential speed, rather than exaggerating the numbers in advertisements and while a customer is making a purchase.
This move comes after telecoms watchdog Ofcom’s report that internet service providers promise unrealistic broadband speeds to customers which is not even possible to deliver through their particular ADSL service. From now on Virgin Media’s ADSL broadband products will carry a confirmed maximum broadband speed limit or will inform customers that they will just offer the highest speed that they can.
Neil Berkett, the CEO of Virgin Media, said that the company’s National Broadband Speed Promise would establish a yardstick of transparency in the industry, and would help customers select the right product. He added that often customers are misled by unrealistically high-broadband speed claims featured in advertisements, which prove to be very frustrating for the customers and even spoil the company’s image and credibility.
Another good news is that Virgin Media Broadband customers will no longer have to pay a rent for the broadband line to another ISP, as the company will provide a direct broadband line to them. Further, the customers can avail a special mobile broadband offer from £5 for 1GB data transfer.
